This included stays of one... read more to three days/nights at five different campsites, all of which provided wonderful views of escarpments and the Serengeti. From early at breakfast until pitch dark back at camp and supper Kelly was with us. His expertise at spotting the smallest creature—a hyrex in the crotch of a tree-/ to taking a sudden right turn to a dark braid of water as giraffes were wading across it JUST before dusk set in, is incredible. His love for his country, his enthusiasm for teaching about it and the abundance of both plant and animal life was infectious. When we were ten feet away from two large lions, we felt safe. When a bull elephant in musth hovered about our Land Cruiser, we felt safe. Did we see every animal and bird we wished to see? Of course not. All the more reason to go with Avid Safari and Kelly Matemu for another round of safaris. Great guide. Great person. Great company.

My wife and I both experienced our birthdays during the safari time and were both surprised and delighted at the lengths the lodges/camps went through to make them memorable all triggered by Avid!
We benefited from the vast knowledge of our guide Kelly who in just a couple of days had made sure we had seen the big five and then went on to ensure our encounters would only get better. The Best Safari Company  - We have taken 2 safaris with Kelly Matemu and Avid Safari, and unequivocally recommend adventures of a lifetime with them! We are fortunate enough to have travelled to Africa... read more on safari 4 times, and Kelly is hands down the best guide we ever had. His knowledge of habitat and animal behavior is predictive and he knows what they will do before they do. As a result, we had front row seats to some absolutely spectacular experiences.

Our first safari to the Serengeti with Kelly in 2017 had us see 128 lions, an amazing encounter with a large family of elephants outside the national park, and a solitary afternoon witnessing 2 female lions carrying their cubs into the last sunlight of the day.

Our 2024 safari had us witness the entirety of a lion hunting a wildebeest, bringing her family back to the kill and feeding her cubs and sister. Kelly knew what was going to happen with amazing accuracy. On that same trip we saw a cheetah take a Thomson gazelle, had the most amazing sunrises at a little travelled area near the national park and saw a massive lion family far out in the plains.

Avid also arranged for us to travel to Rwanda and Uganda to trek for golden monkeys in the former, and mountain gorillas in the latter. Kelly was with us every step of the way, made sure everything was sorted, and got us spectacular accommodations and experiences. He also made certain we learned of culture and history, particularly in Rwanda, and for that, his skill and friendship, we are eternally grateful.

We are already planning another safari with Avid, and suggest anyone reading this do the same. It will change your life.
